A Drawn-Type Guide Bush (Series 100) is a precision work-holding component used in Swiss-type CNC lathes (sliding headstock machines). It serves as the primary support for the bar stock as it passes through the headstock to the cutting tools.
The "Drawn" (or Draw) type refers to the mechanism used to adjust the tension: the guide bush is pulled (drawn) back into a tapered seat to close its bore around the bar stock.
Stability
Pulling the
bush into the taper provides more rigid support than "push-type" designs, which is crucial
when the cutting tool is applying pressure just millimeters away from the bush face.
Friction Control
It
allows for minute adjustments. If the bar stock varies slightly in diameter (even ground
stock has tolerances), the operator can "draw" the bush slightly more or less to maintain
the perfect sliding fit.
Longer Life
The axial
pulling force distributes wear more evenly across the carbide surface compared to radial
clamping.
